It would be hard to chronicle the North Texas punk scene without the mention of its prolific son. Over the years Daniel Fried has been involved with some of the most notable bands in Texas this century. Hailing from Dallas, TX Fried is a principle songwriter in Bad Sports (along with fellow Beggars Music writer Orville Neeley), VIDEO,The Wax Museums and Silver Shampoo, and is also a prominent member of Mind Spiders and Radioactivity.

As one half of Bad Sports, Fried enjoyed success with albums ‘Kings Of The Weekend’, ‘Bras’, and ‘Constant Stimulation’. After a 4 year hiatus, the band returned in 2023 with rollicking new singles ‘Stuck On Loop’ and ‘Run and Hide’.

After decades of collaborating with other people, Daniel decided he wanted to create his own band, his own sound, with his own principles, and in 2017 started a  new project using the moniker TV’s Daniel. In 2023, he announced the debut TV’s Daniel record –  coming out on Wild Honey Records this September. Of first single ‘Face Down In The Ditch (Of Love), Freid says “[This] was the first song I ever wrote for TV’s Daniel, before the world imploded and built itself back again. I wanted to challenge myself and see if I could write a good song using only one chord. Part of the impetus of starting a solo band is having a project where no one can tell you “no”. So, I tried to mix as many influences as I can into the song and filter them through my brain and years of playing in other bands. Foggy Notion meets early Psychedelic Furs, with some great guitar work by Jason Smith, reminiscent of the Soft Boys and Television. Not bad for one chord. Lyrically, the song is about readying yourself to be open for love. Not getting hung up inside your head and being able to appreciate what’s in front of you, or what’s sneaking up behind you”.
