Micachu and the Shapes
Beggars Music is excited to announce that Micachu & the Shapes will release their second studio album ‘NEVER’ on 23rd July 2012 via Rough Trade Records.
‘NEVER’ was self-produced by the band, recorded at band member Marc Pell’s studio in Stratford and mixed by Dillip Harris and the band. It is the follow-up to their critically acclaimed debut ‘Jewellery’ (2009).
Since the release of ‘Jewellery’, Micachu & the Shapes released the live album ‘Chopped & Screwed’ in 2011, a collaboration with the London Sinfonietta whom Micachu wrote an orchestral piece for in 2010 which was subsequently performed as part of the Ether Festival. Micachu is currently an artist-in-residence at London’s Southbank Centre; the youngest individual musician to be granted this unique role.
Mica has also been emersed in a collaborative project ‘Kwesachu’ with London-based musician/producer Kwes, featuring guests such as Ghostpoet, Speech Debelle, DELS and The Invisible. It is currently premiering on The Quietus website (http://thequietus.com/) where you can download it for free. It is the follow-up to the Kwesachu Vol. 1 mixtape (2008) which was released on cassette tape and featured the likes of The XX’s Romy Croft and Hot Chip.
..in between the shudders, splurts, stabs, stutters, stops and starts, spills a pure, pristine thread of melodic playfulness that makes ‘Jewellery’ a fiendishly addictive breakthrough album…
